Tonight I am listing an antique original cast iron Mechanical Bank with . This is the \'UNCLE REMUS\" Mechanical Bank designed by John Murray and manufactured by theKyser & RexCo. Philadelphia, Pa. It was patented on October 27, 1891. There are no cracks or breaks and the bank still retains much of the original paint. Because this is considered to be a very scarce bank, it is difficult to find in any condition let alone theexcellent plus condition of the onebeing presented here tonight. The manufacturing period of the bank is in the 1890\'s and during the time that mechanical banks have become collector\'s itemsit has maintained a high degree ofdesirability and rarity. Its traditional down-to-earth theme and the action surrounding this make it highly desirable to the collector.

Action of the \"Uncle Remus Bank\" is a masterpiece of synchronization. The figure of the cop is pulled back into position. A coin is then placedinto the slot atop the chicken coop. The operating lever, in the form of the chicken and positioned in front of the coop, is pressed downward. Simultaneously, the cop, nightstick raised, scoots around the side of the house. The coin then falls into the bank; Uncle Remus (the figure in the coop) slams the door shut, hiding himself from the pursuing policeman. Deposits are retrieved by opening the square key lock coin retainer underneath the base.

The bank is in proper working order but sometimes needs a minor adjustment. This bank compares to other \"Uncle Remus\" banks that have sold for $5,000. to $7,000. at sale.
