Confederate Belt Buckle & Checkerboard, Spout Spring VA - Original

Here are two family pieces which belonged to my father who was born in 1913. They have always been together and I understand they were the property of the same man.

The buckle is in excellent condition as seen in the photos and is 3 1/4\" long by 1 3/4\". The checkerboard is approximately 14 1/2\" square and has the following stenciled on the reverse:

My Google search turned up this reference for J. C. Whitaker in a 1918 Grand Camp Confederate Veterans publication: You will look a long time before you find better pair of Civil War items and I hope they will remain together.
