A cornopean is a cornet-like instrument that has valves that vent out the bottom of the valve casings. This type of valve is known as a Stoelzel valve. On the bell is stamped “metzler & Co Best London Maker". This cornopean most likely dates from the 1850’s. It is made of unlacquered brass. All valves are working the middle one slightly stiff the slides are tight but move. There are no missing parts. All three valve buttons match and are original. Also present are two of the three protective covers for the valves.It is also equipped with a trill key (broken off will need soldering), a common feature on cornopeans of this vintage. It comes with one shank and four crooks that pitch this instrument.Included are two period mouthpieces,all in original case.There are a few dings at base as shown and a dent to the bell but nowhere else that I can see.
