It is a copperbattery chain that was the major component of Dr. McLaughlin\'s electric belt.The belt, combined with a new interest in electricity, produced a weak current when soaked in a salt solution. It was advertised as a cure for multipleailments, from nervous disorders, to rheumatism, pain, and paralysis. The copper battery chain is 21\" in length and 2\" in width. It is inscribed on one copper oval \"Dr. McLaughlin\'s Electric Belt Pat. Jun 19 1900 (see photo 2.) The item is used and the copper has obtained patina with age.
