An early New England Redware Jug, Gonic, New Hampshire origin, ca.1830. Highly-Ovoid body, tooled rounded spout, strap handle with thumbprint terminal, and pronounced footed base. There are a series of parallel incised lines about the shoulder. Lead-glazed over a mottled, vibrant Olive Green with bright Orange Halos throughout. The base is unglazed and is marked with a museum or collection identification number (see close-up).Condition: Imperfections in the making and utilitarian wear including chips and glaze flakes on the rim, handle, body and base, as shown. There is fine crazing on the glaze surface throughout. No cracks, repaired damage or restoration work. Wonderful overall form, size and variation in glaze color; displays brilliantly.
