Edwards Professional B454 Bass Trombone

Excellent condition bass trombone! I have had this fine instrument for about 12 years, being the second owner. The original owner used it in symphonic and small ensemble settings. I purchased it to play in concert bands and ensembles.

I have played trombone since high school (Class of \'95), switching from tenor to bass trombone during my junior year and continuing with the bass into college marching in the University of Alabama Million Dollar Band with a Benge 290 F bass trombone. Once all my marching days were over and I had worked a few years, put myself through graduate school and settled down, I bought this nice one-owner B-454 to play in concert brass bands and ensembles. I have three children now and haven\'t really played it (except for monthly practice to at least kind of keep up my chops) in about 5 years. I can no longer justify keeping such a fine instrument cased up over in the corner of the room. It needs to be played and enjoyed by someone who can do so more than my life allows me at present.

If you know bass trombones, or if you know fine quality trombones in general, there is really no more description than I can add that\'s better than just telling you that it\'s an Edwards B454. It\'s by far the best horn that I have ever played and no doubt the best that I have owned. What you do need to know are the specific options on this particular instrument as Edwards trombones are modular instruments. Here are the particulars for my bass:

Edwards B-454 Bass Trombone
  • Year: 1996 or 1997
  • Pitch: Bb/F/Gb/D (F & Gb combined to produce D)
  • Leadpipe: All three included. The different brass leadpipes aid the player in achieving the desired compression of the individual instrument. Leadpipes have differing venturi sizes to vary compression.
  • Mouthpiece: Includes Getzen 1 1/2 G bass trombone mouthpiece.
  • Slide: B-DB (Dual-bore .562\"/.578\"). Yellow brass outer side with nickel sleeves and endcrook.
  • Valves: Double Axial Flow Thayer Valves (In-line & Independent)
  • Tuning Slide: Single Radius Yellow Brass. One continuous bend from the small to the large end. Very free blowing and open in all registers.
  • Bell: 1147CF (9.5\" diameter; 21-gauge; Red brass [90% Copper / 10% Zinc]); Soldered Rim; Tempered; Double Buffed. Recommended by the pro at Edwards to the original owner. Higher copper content bells generally are very dark in the soft volumes but become more brilliant in the louder volumes.
  • Case: Original Edwards hard case with custom harness leather handles. Fabric not torn or ripped. Handles are in great shape. It\'s never been under a bus or in a trailer with other cases banging around.

Of course, you can change any of these on Edwards trombones because of their modular construction. Throw on a big yellow brass bell for attack and bright tones for a jazz band, then switch over to red brass for dark lows and symphonic work. So many tones and textures available with an Edwards!
