ENGLISH STERLING CHAMBER CANDLESTICKS (2) 1786 JOHN SCHOFIELD
A fine pair of George III sterling chamber form candlesticks.
From John Schofield, 1786 & 1787, one of the most important, though
under-rated silversmiths of the period.
Worked next door to Paul Storr.
Both supplied the various Royal retailers of the day,
as a result, Schofield enjoyed numerous royal commissions.
Circular turned up and reeded edge drip pans,
with period engraved family crest.
Detachable nozzles atop tapering urn with
open base, which would have houses snuffers.
Conical extinguishers, hallmarked.
Tongue cap ring handles.
The set of 1786-1787 British sterling silver chamber
candlesticks 6 3/4 inches handle to edge of
drip pan and set weighs 24 standard ounces.
The drip pans with well struck hallmarks,
extinguishers rubbed, appear matching marks,
nozzles with post 1820 London sterling marks.
In very fine condition.
Rich, lustreous silver patina.
Wear to the crest as shown.
