JOANIES CHINESE SCHOLAR ART ESTATE sale

JOANIES VOTED #1 ESTATE sales TEN YEARS AND RUNNING!

Hello, thank you for having a look at our sales. This week we are very excited to be offering the what I believe to be one of our most important sale sales to date, and our Last large sale of the season. This sale offers a wide variety of fine and important Chinese works of art including bronzes, jades, paintings and other rarely found scholarly objects.

The sale features items from two important estate collections, along with some last porcelain examples from the Michael Vermeer collection. We have featured items from both these estate collections in the past and now the estate has asked us to sell the remainder of the collections. They include items from the estate of Mr. H.H Pao of Toronto who owned a high-end shop in the famous Four Seasons hotel in Toronto for several years throughout the 1980s to 1990s period. Mr. Pao was a dear friend whom was considered one of North America’s top experts and scholars in many categories of antique Chinese art. The sale also includes jades and other early Chinese bronze and archaic items from the estate of A Abraham. Mr. Abraham was a highly respected Asian Arts dealer and collector in the 1950-70’s period. He frequently travelled to China, Hong Kong, New York, and London on buying trips at the time. Abraham owned the Imperial Jade shop in the famous King Edward hotel in Toronto until his retirement in the year 1976, 40 years ago. When the shop closed many of the pieces went to Sotheby’s in New York for sale. Abraham kept some of his most favorite examples that we are now offering for sale. Most of the pieces have been in storage since the shop closed in 1976 and have not seen the light of day until now.

As my sales have run for over 12 years selling online All the items will be sold to the highest buyer with Absolutely s. We ask that you only offer on the items if you are serious about purchasing them. If you have any questions in regards to the items or payment please do not hesitate to email me.

I do wish everyone the very best of luck winning the sales!

Up for sale is an Exceptionally fine and very rare large 17th century Chinese Ming dynasty compound cabinet. I am told this cabinet was brought to Canada from China by the family in the 1920s period. I am told the cabinet would date to the later Ming dynasty, 17 century period. I am told the base decor could be original or possibly later carved in the Qing dynasty. The cabinet shows good and legitimate signs of early age throughout and to the back side and top as seen. The cabinet is finely hand made with what I believe would be referred to as Paktong (nickel silver like) hinge and door mounts. I am told the outside panels of the cabinet are authentic Huanghuali. I have taken the pictures in direct sunlight to show the amazing flaming and incredible depth features of this amazing hardwood when in direct sunlight. The pictures have not been embellished at all, this is what is actually looks like in direct sunlight, truly amazing. I am told the interior of the cabinet is likely made of Hongmu and other lesser woods. I am told they would not commonly ever use the precious and highly prized Huanghuali for interior and back side construction only for the most visually appealing portions.

The cabinet shows minor imperfections and very small early wood-inlaid repairs to the panels as should be found on a legitimate example of this early age. As you can see the cabinet is overall in very fine and intact original condition with no major losses or repairs. The cabinet is a very large and impressive size. The two-piece cabinet has a total height of 98 inches tall, by 49 1/2 inches wide, and 18 1/4 inches deep. The bottom cabinet itself measures 68 inches tall, and the top cabinet 30 inches tall. A guestimate on weight would be 150-250 pounds. I believe this is likely the only authentic Huanghuali compound cabinet that has even been offered on . I was able to find a similar later pair that sold a few years ago as seen. I am told some examples have sold for substantially more which is Well Worth looking into.
