This is for a pristine antique French Empiresilver desktop writing set in its original display box dating to around 1850. The box is lined in velvet and moulded to hold the matching dip pen, letter opener and seal with two wafer seal compartments complete with lids set in the centre. The dip pen has a Bramah clip style nib clip with the original ring to clamp a little quill slip or nib in place. The letter opener is finely decorated, it has a steel body and silver gilt handle, the steel is very finely patterned to show birds and flowers, it has been gilded and blackened into the recesses on both sides for extra effect, and usually on this type of piece that will have faded right back over time, but on this set it is as vivid and immaculate as the day it was made. All three pieces have the same heavily decorated design on both sides of the handles and they all carry the French boars head silver mark along with a makers mark.This set is in exceptional condition, it looks hardly used, it has no damage or wear at all and the interior of the box is superclean. The penmeasures150mm (6\") long, the seal is 73mm nearly 3\" tall and the opener is195mm (7.5\") long.
