Description:
This calendar clock has a unique gesso overlay type finish that was added long ago - probably in the 1940\'s. This is an early hard to find calendar clock that is nearly complete and would be well worth restoring the case to the original walnut finish.
The gesso work was very well done and looks very nice as it is. There are a few small areas of missing gesso where you can see that the original walnut veneer is still there. If you wanted to restore the clock to the original finish the gesso does peal or chip off with a bit of effort.There is a small, angled,sliver of wood missing from the top left return of the case. There is a crack across the base of theclock that isnot looseandcan be seen when the dooris open.There are no other visible issues with the case, but no telling what else might be going on under the gesso.
Both glasses are old and original with waves and bubbles. Both dials have the original paper that has darkened with age and some wear to the top dial. The hands are original and complete. The pendulum is the proper style but is a newer replacement.
The original inside cover over the lower calendar mechanism is present which is a big plus because it is almost always missing on this model. There is a full label on the cover that can be seen in the close up photos.
The original8 day,timeand strikemovement is signed Ingraham. The movement strikes on a heavy cathedral gong.Themovement is in excellent condition,and has been keeping perfect time andis due for a routine cleaning service *(see below).The key is a proper sized replacement.
The trip arm that trips the lower calendar mechanism is missing. It connects to the main movement and should be an easy part to replace or to have made. The lower calendar mechanism works freely when operated by hand.
