Large Ancient Chinese Han Dynasty Pottery Stick Man - 206 BC
Price: GB $536.56

A striking, vibrant and decorative ancient Chinese Han Dynasty Yangling figure, dating to 206 BC - 220 AD.

With a linear, slender form, this figure of a man is shown nude. His finely carved facial features lend a sense of personality, he wears his long hair tied into a tight bun. The large feet schematically rendered, the upper body with insertion holes for arms. There is an imposing sense of monumentality to this piece, its overall uniformity reflecting Han society\'s emphasis upon political and social unity.

With a striking, almost abstract aesthetic, the Yangling figures are highly distinctive from a great deal of the ming qi produced during the Han Dynasty and are some of the most decorative of all ancient Chinese figurative art.

For a similar, published example, please see: Baker, J. 1996. Seeking Immortality. p 31. Bowers Museum: Santa Ana.

Height: 23 inches.

Condition: Very good. Both feet reattached, proper left leg reattached, neck reattached and reattached from several fragments at the waist. Note that the honest restoration exhibited here is preferable to the many examples currently on the market which have been recomposed and with attempts to hide widespread restoration. This is an honest, genuine example of a much desired and much faked type.

Please note that this piece does not stand on its own so would require a pad on the foot to stand upright. Alternatively we may provide a free perspex stand if the customer wishes to pay the shipping cost (please enquire).
