Aparticularlylarge Ming Dynasty processionalmusician figure, dating to the 15th Century.

Witha beautifully preserved glaze of caramel yellow andgreen,this striking,monumental depiction is one of a tall Ming attendant standing on a tiered plinth. Wearing a conical felthat andthick green gown tied at the waist with a long belt, therealistic drapery of the cloth hangs loose about him, hiding his physical form.The left arm is held to his chest, clutching a largemusical instrument slung over the shoulder, the right handis held at the side and covered by thelong, baggysleeve.A particularly well detailed and striking face adds a further sense of lifelike character to the piece.

This artefact is a lovely example of Ming Dynasty ming-ch\'i art, a stylewell regarded for its high technical and artistic standards, realism in depicting the human form anduse of rich glazes. Joined by other figures as part of a processional scene, this figure would havebeen intended to accompany an eminent individual into the afterlife, demonstratingtheir wealth and importance in boththe world of the living and the dead.

A beautiful, decorative and particularly well preservedexample of Ming figurative art.

An Oxford Authentication Thermoluminescence test accompanies this piece, which scientifically dates it to the Ming dynasty.

Condition:Good. Restored around the neck area, otherwise in excellentcondition for a genuine Ming Dynasty figural ceramic.

Ex collection of Professor Gunther Doeker-Mach, acquired 1980\'s - 1990\'s.

Doeker-Mach was a well respected academic and prolific author. He was an authority on human rights as well as international law, teaching at the University of New South Wales. Together with his wife, the eminent activist Alice Tay, they travelled the world acquiring fine art works and antiquities with which they tastefully decorated their home.
