Large Royal Doulton Character Jug - The Fisherman - Genuine Prototype Jug
Price: GB $2560.55
This is a once in a blue moon opportunity to acquire a genuine large Royal Doulton prototype character jug of The Fisherman. This jug is my absolute pride and joy but due to financial constraints I am having to sell off the last items from my Royal Doulton collection. This jug is genuine prototype jug. It was never put into production and was not continued with for reasons unknown. It features in the excellent book \'A Century of Royal Doulton Character and Toby Jugs\' produced my Steve Mullins and David Fastenau and a copy of the entry is produced in the photos above. The Fisherman was prototyped in 1968 (so originates from the golden era of Doulton character jugs) and was produced by David Biggs. The Mullins book suggests that only one is known to exist, but this is a second example. What is more desirable about this jug is that it differs slightly from the one in the Mullins book, as one would expect when several prototypes were being produced. this jug has a more square jawline and lighter features, as well as blue/grey coat and hat. When this jug was purchased I was told that it had had some minor restoration to the base. I must confess that I am unable to locate any evidence whatsoever of restoration so whoever did restore has don an excellent job. I have attached several photos of the base however for you to judge for yourself. Aside from that there is no damage, chips, cracks, blemishes or evidence of other restoration anywhere on the jug. It truly is a piece of Royal Doulton history and a work of art! This jug is absolutely one of a kind - such jugs simply don\'t appear on and certainly not at 99p start with . this could be an amazing chance to purchase a piece of history, for a lot les than it would cost via an sale house or dealer. For an example of what this jug would cost via a dealer, take a look at the link for this jug will be £15.00 in the UK (given the fact that it will be double boxed) and £40 to overseas buyers. I am happy to answer any questions you may have about the jug. I shall be very sad to see him go from my collection, and I very much hope whoever buys the jug gets as much pleasure from owning it as I did!
