Loot Lowdown-
BRAND NEW... Not a "New-Pull".. This is fresh out of the Delta factory box (Manufactured in 2009).
253 CFM, 1.412 inches of static pressure in H20 (352 PA), NO HEAVY DUTY FAN CONTROLLER NECESSARY!...This fan is the popular PFB1212UHE-F00 withPWM (Pulse Width Modulation)circuitry that allows for advanced speed control without additional hardware.
Even when running at full speed, this fan isn't loud for the amount of air it pushes (nearly 4:1 CFM to noise ratio)..
If you're the skeptical type that needs more than just gaudy numbers and specs, look at the photos of this fan with the impeller removed side by side with a Server grade Nidec TA450DC... Notice the difference in the windings, bearings and the PCB (Printed Circuit Board)...
It's really not close... First the windings .. With the Delta, you've got 8 electromagnets wound with heavy guage copper wire.... The Nidec has 4 magnets wrapped with thread-like wire (this is the typical PC fan configuration).. .The last picture shows a 90 CFM Cooler Master with the impeller removed. More magnets = More efficient, More torque.. A simplistic analog would be the 8 cylinder car engine vs. a 4 banger...
Now the bearings.. Inside the Delta are TWO monster sized double shielded* ball bearings by NMB (the premier name in bearings) that allow the impeller to turn with minimum friction. Each one retails for $10.. (Nmb-r-1560zz... at mcelectronics.com ) .. The Nidec uses two tiny no name bearings..
And the PCB.. I'm not an Electrical engineer so I have no idea what does what on a fan PCB.. I just know that there seems to be a lot more going on with the Delta than other fans (both the Nidec and the Cooler Master)..More ICs = More functions..
Start up voltage is a surprisingly low 5V.. at this voltage this fan consumes 0.25 Amps.. Can be run on 5V using the "5V PSU mod"..
*each bearing has 2 metal shields to protect the bearing from dust or any possible contamination
This fan is hard to find, but I have seen some variants online for $50+..
Some things to keep in mind.. Not all Delta PFC1212DE-PWMs are created equally... The variant in this listing:
1. Is made in Thailand (vs. China/Taiwan).. There are some who feel that the Delta plant in Thailand has superior quality control vs. the plant in China. There is a youtube video comparing a XBOX fan made in Thailand vs. the same fan made in China for those interested.
2. Has long wires (over 12" long)
3. Is PC ready.. The same model sold online is most likely a bare wire fan unless indicated otherwise. This fan is terminated by a 4 pin molex connector for power, and a 4 pin PWM header for tach readings and PWM control. Since this fan isn't powered through your mobo, you don't risk blowing out your board.
To sum it up... 1. You're not going to find a better revision or variant of this fan and 2. This the lowest price you will find, guaranteed.. Special Features
PWM
Just plug the 4pin PWM plug into the CPU header on your mobo and this beast is now under your control.... You can either set your mobo to auto speed control (usually done in the BIOS) or you can use a program such as speedfan (free) to control the speed. With speedfan, I was able to run this fan at 1,550 RPM...
Should you leave the PWM connector unplugged, the fan will run at full speed.. Comes with a tach sensor (the blue wire also terminated by the 4 pin PWM header) so you can see how fast the fan is running in the BIOS or in Windows..
Startup Protection
This fan will not run at full speed the instant it recieves current. To prevent PSU overload (as well as accidental hand injury), this fan spools up gradually, reaching max speed after 10 seconds.

FAQQ: I'm interesting in using this fan for a project that doesn't involve a PC and I don't even know what PWM is... Can I use it?A: Yes, all you need is a source for DC voltage (at least .5A of 5V).. Then just connect the + to the Red wire and the - to the Black wire.. You can disregard the other two wires.. They aren't needed for this fan to operate.. You can cut them off if you wish.Q: I want to use two of these but my mobo only has one PWM header. Can I control the speed of both fans?
A: YES.. You can do this 1 of 2 ways:
- Buy a PWM adapter/splitter/harness cable (available online or on for around $3-$4.. )
- Splice the PWM sensor wire (yellow in this case) together..Don't splice the Tach wire (blue in this case) together.. Just use one and disregard or cut off the other..
