New Haven Anglo American Wall Clock, Ca. 1880, 8-day Time and Strike, Excellent
Price: US $330.10
Description: Thisclock\'s exceptionally elaborate inlays makes itone of the nicest New Haven Anglo American examples that I have seen. The case appears to be made of mahogany and rosewood veneers with the super marquetry work on the rosewood. The clock has a typical 12 inch tin dial, which about 35 years ago was repainted by a real professional. Hands, pendulum and key are all original as is the wavy glass over the dial. The bottom glass was replaced. The clock has the typical ca. 1875-85 marked New Haven brass movement with time and strike of eight days duration.
This wall clock measures 29 inches long and 16 1/2 inches wide and weighs 11 pounds.
This clock case was produced in London during the mid to late Victorian period and the inlays executed by Italian craftsmen.
Condition:This clock was stored away in heated storage for more than 30 years after its owner passed away. An heir gave me the job of selling the deceased\'s antique items. I set up and lightly oiled this clock with special clock oil as the movement was bone dry. The clock seems to run fine but will need adjustments to get the best tone from the bell when it is struck on the hours. That being said, I can\'t guarantee running condition as I did not run the clock through a complete cycle of one week. I seems that about 35 years ago this clock was overhauled. I should add that the movement is extremely clean and mounted with its original screws. Some of the door hinge screws appear to have been replaced.
