Presented for sale is a rare Nippon Coralenecovered jar with lid.
Japanese Coralene is a type of ceramic ware decoratedwith numerous colored glass beads that are heated until they fuse and present thedesired effect.
This piece presents two different floral displaysagainst a painted background of cobalt blue with gilded highlights.
With the lid in place this piece measures about 7.0inches tall and about 5.75 inches at the widest (from handle to handle).
This piece is marked to the base with a purple markthat indicates a patent date of (I think) 1909. It is a bit blurry and hard tomake out.
Condition:
This piece has no cracks, hairlines or restorations. The lid is all original and the knob has never been damaged. Normal wear can beexpected on some of the gilding.
The last two photos will show two small areas weresome of the tiny glass beads were either knocked off or fell off. To see thislook for the small white spot below the handle and also a white spot to aflower (iris?) pedal.
This a very rare and desirable ceramic being offeredat reasonable starting price.
Theattached photos are presented as part of the description. Additional photos areavailable upon request.
