Called in honor of the frigate \"Aurora\" which was heroically protecting Petropavlovsk-na-Kamchatke during the Crimean war of 1853-1856, the cruiser \"Aurora\" was put in St. Petersburg on ship-building shipyard of Novoye-Admiralteystvo on May 23, 1897, floated on May 11, 1900 and became operational the fighting ships of fleet of Russia in July, 1903.The cruiser accepted baptism of fire in Tsusimsky battle on May 14-15 1905.In the First World War takes active part in operations on the Baltic Sea.In revolutionary events of 1917. \"Aurora\" played an important role. In the night of October 25 (with 6 for November 7 on new style) \"Aurora\" took part in armed revolt. The Auroras radio station transferred the appeal written by V.I.Lenin \"To citizens of Russia!\", in which it was told about a victory of proletarian revolution. Ship electricians closed parts of drawn Nikolayevsky Bridge (today Lieutenant Schmidt Bridge) and provided pass of groups of Red guard from the Vasilyevsky island to the city center. On the same day at 21 o\'clock 40 minutes on a conventional sign from the Peter and Paul Fortress the nasal tool of the cruiser \"Aurora\" made the single shot which has become a signal to the beginning of storm of the Winter palace. As a result of storm the Provisional government which was in the Winter palace, was arrested. The new era in the history of Russia began.Entire period of the Leningrad blockade of 1941-1944. \"Aurora\" stood at a wall in the port of Oranienbaum (Lomonosov), being exposed to systematic attacks and bombings.In 1956г. on \"Aurora\" the Ship museum, as branch of the Central Naval museum, was open.Length of the cruiser - 126,7 m, width - 16,8 m.
