Early Isleta Pueblo brass cross necklace with a large classic double barred cross at the bottom and five graduated matching crosses on each side, strung on approximately 1/4” diameter handmade globular brass beads. There is a 2 1/8” section of brick red ceramic trade beads (I believe they are called \"white hearts\") on each side and the necklace is completed with a 5 1/4” section of classic cotton string squaw wrap. You would slip the necklace over your head to wear it. The necklace appears authentic to me for several reasons: 1) the honest aged patina; 2) the crosses appear to be individually handcrafted and hammered out; 3) the thickness of the crosses varies and they are thinner at the curved tips. I do not know if the trade beads are original to the necklace and it may have been restrung in the recent past. Genuine antique Isleta cross necklaces are EXTREMELY collectible!
Excellent quality and condition, consistent with its age, which I estimate to be early 1900’s. Unsigned. Very reasonable starting price. Please view the photos to determine the age and authenticity for yourself. The necklace is reversible and is the same on both sides.
