Up for sale is a well-crafted vintage Cherokee Indian splint oak covered market basket or picnic basket. It has beautiful detailing, with its dark walnut and green stripes on the lid and on the sides with faded salmon pink stripes, which are now most visible on the inside of the basket. The white oak weavers have mellowed to almost the same color as the tinted splints, in fact the whole basket has a beautiful aged patina. The basket has a pair of flip lids, and a sturdy handle which goes all the way to the underside of the basket and is held in place with one of the unique Cherokee locking splints. The basket also features and oak-wrapped ring base, and a bentwood oak frame. This sturdy and well-crafted Cherokee Indian splint oak basket will make a terrific addition to someone\'s collection.

The basket is a nice medium size for one of these Cherokee baskets. It measures an oval 9\" x 6½\" across at the rim, 5½\" deep, and 10\" tall to the top of the handle. This basket is in outstanding condition for its age. If you look carefully at the ring base, you can find two tiny pieces of missing splint. But this is the only flaw on the entire basket, and there are no other breaks or other damage, including the rims. The handle is still tight and doesn\'t wobble, and the lids are intact and still flip. See photos, as they give a true picture of the basket\'s features and condition. It\'s a very nice old Cherokee Indian splint oak basket, and it makes an awesome piece for display.
