Circa 1900\'s wooden carved Black Forest cat pin/jewelry tray
Beautifully carved with green glass cats eyes.
This sale is for the rare early carved wooden cat pin or jewelry tray as shown
in the photographs. It measures approximately 3½\" tall, 4\" wide and 4\" deep and is
carved from what I think is oak in the Black Forest style. It is slightly playworn and
has a lovely aged patina and although the tips of both ears have broken this must
have happened a long time ago as the as there is an even patina across the breaks
and does not detract from the overall condition too badly at all.The cat is really beautifully and realistically carved with wonderful inset glass eyes
which are back painted in yellow and green with cats slit pupils. It has all the quality
of what has been termed Black Forest carvings but were actually made in Switzerland
and I would date it to circa 1900 although it could easily be earlier than that.I have put up lots of photos, which can be enlarged, to show the fantastic carved detail
