ORIGINAL 1926 Rose Bowl Program, Alabama vs. Washington. PERFECT Huskies, Tide
Price: US $2638.00

I bought this at an estate sale, knowing someone out in -land would like to have this. Although a native Californian, I lived and worked in Alabama for 4 years, and I know how important football is there. To Crimson Tide fans, this 1926 Rose Bowl Program commemorates \"The Game That Changed the South.\"

You want to know why? Read a part of the article below. Southern teams weren\'t invited to Bowl Games back then. In fact, at least 4 other teams were invited first: Dartmouth, Yale, Colgate, and Tulane. Finally, Alabama said \"yes.\"

Johnny Mack Brown (the \"Dothan Antelope\") was key to Alabama winning this game. His onfield heroics also sent Hollywood to his door, and he ended up making 169 movies.

While this program is considered a kind of Holy Grail for Bama Fans, I\'d be happy to sell to a Huskie! By the way, Alabama won the game, 20 to 19, and Bama was named National Champion.

This program is in near mint condition. See the final 2 photos for the only flaws. The spine shows some wear, and there is a \"bump\" to the bottom pages. Otherwise, this program is in amazing condition. There\'s the teeniest line of rust underneath the staples, but the staples are tight, and every page is in place.

I guess I\'ll do this as a 7-day sale, but if someone HAS to have this in time for Christmas, I will consider outrageous offers.

From Alabama dot com:

It was New Year’s Day in 1926 and the Alabama Crimson Tide was headed to the Rose Bowl, marking the first time any southern college football team would play in Pasadena, or in any bowl game. In those days, teams from the North, Midwest and West were considered powerhouses.

Even after Alabama Polytechnic University’s undefeated 1914 season, southern teams still labored under the post-Civil War perception that southerners were less intelligent and less athletic.

In 1925, following the regular season, the Washington Huskies, with a record of 10-0-1, were set to play for the championship in the Rose Bowl. Bowl officials invited strong contenders such as Dartmouth, Yale and Colgate to compete against the Huskies, but those colleges turned down the invitations because they had recently been criticized for placing too much focus on athletics and hoped to send a message to boosters that academics were still of utmost importance.

When officials invited the Crimson Tide, which had completed its first undefeated season, people thought the match was laughable. Legendary coach Pop Warner told the press that Wallace Wade’s Alabama team was“too light to stop that big Washington team.”

But the Tide would prove him wrong. At halftime, the Huskies were ahead 12-0. Then, in the third quarter, Alabama scored three touchdowns, the first by quarterback Allison “Pooley” Hubert and the next two by standout halfback Johnny Mack Brown. Washington responded, bringing the score to 20-19 in Alabama’s favor. As the Huskies attempted to score in the final seconds, Brown made a spectacular tackle, winning the game for the southern underdogs.

NOTE TOINTERNATIONAL BUYERS, including those in CANADA: I ship outside the U.S. through \'s Global Shipping Program. That means sets the shipping cost and I have no control on that or any fees or taxes which are charged. I gather the prices are quite high.

Thanks so much for looking!
