Here is an early Pflueger Medalist 1492 fly reel. Note the ring line guide, metal spool cap, sculpted pillars and bird cage arbor, butterscotch knob, and gun metal finish. This reel has a single pawl and an extra spring - no second pawl and never had one (no pawl stanchion on the tail plate) so we know this is a hard to find second version reel circa 1930. Marked "patent pending" for the ornamental design - they don't make them like they used to! Show finish wear and the spool cap is tarnished - please see photos from all angles. No grooves in the line guide. Foot has been neatly trimmed 1/8" on one side (see last photo) as were many of these to fit a particularsplitbamboo rod. Now measures 2 5/16". The foot is screwed in rather than riveted so it could be easily replaced if desired. Cranks smoothly with a strong click. Ready to fish another 85 years and a fine addition to yourcollection!
