Description: 

Up for your consideration is a circa 1940s Mexican sterling silver and obsidian necklace that is very similar in design to one done by Antonio Pineda. I\'ve included an image of that necklace for your comparison. It is in Penny Morrill\'s book \"Silver Masters of Mexico on page 179.  Per Morrill, Pineda left Taller de Las Delicias in 1939 to work for Valentin Vidaurreta in Mexico City and it was here he developed an appreciation for working with powerfully formed but simple shapes in silver.  In 1941, Pineda left and established his own workshop. Although this necklace is not a Pineda, it is definitely influenced by him.  

This necklace is comprised of 13 panels, 7 of which are silver and shaped like an axe head-very pre-Colombian Mayan in style.  The other 6 panels are shield shaped and bezel set with oval obsidian cabochons.  The shape of the panels fit perfectly next to each other.  The 2 axe head panels at both ends of the necklace are rounded off on the side where it will lay against your neck so as not to poke you.  How considerate of the maker.  It fastens with a thick chain that has hook and eye closure. 

Markings:  Struck 4 times in a circle, some partial: Mexico Silver. 

Size: 15 1/4\" x 1 1/4\".

Weight: 74.8 gms

Condition:  Very good vintage condition. It has some patina but I\'ll leave shining it up to the buyer. The obsidian is intact. The only flaw is a small dent in one of the axe head panels.  It is the 3rd one on the left side when worn-closer to the fastener.  I have included an image of that dent.  I\'m sure a jeweler could remove it. 

Shipping:  I will ship USPS first class. The necklace will be wrapped in bubble wrap and placed in a padded envelope to ensure the bracelet gets to you safe and sound.
