IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ: The word “Rare” gets tossed around quite a bit here on when it comes to Case knifes, and most of the time its by someone not understanding what a “rare” knife is all about. This P172 Buffalo is a good example of what “rare” means. I’m offering it in its original unused condition, as you see it, along with the original box which is also in like new condition. The shining Pakkawood handles are chip and crack free while the blade shows the factor edge, original luster, a few very light spots on the backside, absolutely no wobble, and walks and talks like just made. Needless to say, this Grand Old Buffalo has never been carried or used in any manner other than being admired. Now, rather than me attempting to explain why this piece is rare, here’s word for word what author and Case collector Steve Pfeiffer says in his book entitled “Collecting Case Knives Identification and Price Guide” (a must own and read for every serious Case Knife collector):
"The P172 (Buffalo) has been in production since 1969. Even though Case started their dating system, using dots, in 1970, a 1970 – 10 dot Buffalo was never made. The knives that were made that year had the CASE XX P172 stamping. Because of this there shouldn’t any 10 dot P172s with the old style stamp in existence. But there are!!! In 1980, when Case went back to 10 dots with the new lightning “S” stamp, the P172 was finally made with 10 dots. However, some blades with the old style stamp went through production with the new blades and were stamped with 10 dots. On these knives the dots will appear on the pile side of the blade tang above the “Hand made in USA.” Because of this there are approximately 600 P172s on the market with 10 dots and the old style stamp. This slight “Slip-Up” has made yet another collector’s item out of regular production item. With only 600 of these on the market, make sure you check the stamps on the P172s you come across. These are sure to become very sought after knives. Based on the above, evidently the error was corrected and the remaining P172 patterns made during 1980 and 1981 will have markings similar to those found on the 1970s P172 patterns but with a “lightning” S in the word CASE on the front of the tang."
This is the knife that was never made. What you’ve just read is what I’m offering all serious collectors a chance to own in a , high offer wins sale. Keep in mind, only 600 have been made but only a maximum of 595 pieces are in circulation because I now own 5 of these gems myself. I’m making just this one available and you’re looking at it. There are millions of collectors around the globe including the nearly 20000 registered in the “Case Collectors Club”, but less than 600 will ever own one of these “rare” pieces of Case history, and this one is in near mint condition. It even comes complete with the box, in like new condition, and original wrapper. Here’s your chance to become one of a very few, offer to win…and good luck!
