Additional Markings: The right side of the ricasso is marked \" US / 577251 \". The reverse side is marked \" SA * FLAMING BOMB ARSENAL MARK * / 1913\". The back side of the leather bound scabbard is marked \" R.I.A. (Rock Island Armory) / 1908 / J.N.S.\"
Size: The blade is approximately 16\" long, with an overall length of approximately 20-5/8\".
Description: Up for sale is an authentic Springfield M1905 bayonet, made in 1913, with 1908 Rock Island Armory scabbard.
Condition: The blade and metal fixtures of the bayonet have amazing bluing remaining, which is hard to find on 102 year old items. There is very light pitting throughout, but is not heavily damaging. The plastic grip panels have light compression marks, but feature clearly defined grip lines. The leather bound scabbard has clear markings, with no major damages. The brass hanger (which is correct to period) is undamaged. The frog holding the hanger to the scabbard is slightly worn at the seam, but is still strongly attached to the scabbard. The bayonet snaps into the scabbard and secures tightly. The bayonet catch mechanism functions as intended.
As mentioned, 1913 was a low production year for M1905 bayonets, which numbered just over 29,000 units, compared to the hundreds of thousands produced during the first world war! Own a genuine piece of world history. Check out our photographs, other items, and response.
