This is a very rare museum quality piece of original potteryfrom the University of North Dakota School of Mines, and is a wonderful exampleof early American Art Pottery. This fabulous vase features a very hard to findand highly sought after Native American Indian design with a carved Sioux Indianshooting a bow and arrow, and riding a horse. The design appears three timesaround the vase. The detail on this piece is outstanding. This vase has a mattebrown glaze with several rings of different shades of brown around the vase.This vase was designed and signed by Flora Gable Huckfield (HUCK); who was thesister of Margaret Cable. Miss Huckfiled joined the ceramics department at theUND School of Mines in 1924 and became a critically acclaimed and honoredartist. This is a great opportunity to own a piece of pottery by one of themost collectible and sought after of all early American potters. This vase isin Mint condition. There are no chips, no cracks, and no repairs. This vase hasthe engraved signature/cipher “HUCK” for Flora Huckfield; the engraved name of the vase “SIOUX” forthe design; the engraved number “151” which corresponds to a date of 1943; andhas the cobalt blue University of North Dakota Pottery seal on the bottom.
