This very rare Victorian novelty silver propelling mechanical pencil measures 75mm (3\") long extended x 45mm (1.75\") closed excluding the fob suspension loop and weighs 9.6 grams. It dates to around the 1880\'s and similar examples are listed on page 98 of the KB Collection of Pencils Book with the pull action revealing the pencil. It is very well crafted and although unmarked as far as I can see is almost certainly produced by Sampson Mordan and this example is in excellent condition with the telescopic pull action working as it should as well as the lead propelling mechanism and fine detail to the engraveddecoration. It was designed to hang from a gentleman\'s fob watch chain and is a very hard to find model especially in working order as the only two other examples I have seen were both non working.
