Item: Extremely rare Shelley China Trio, Pattern No. 11628. This gorgeous set has dainty flower garlands, geometric borders and gold gilt edges. Tea Cup is the elegant \"Queen Anne\" shape. Normally this pattern is in black & white so it\'s unusual to find this in purple & white. The Trio originally came from a Tea Set so it might have been part of a specially commissioned order for a store or private household. Alternatively it might have been produced as a sample. Whatever the reason for the colour, this is a genuine piece and will make a wonderful addition to any collection.

Currently we have many other lovely Trios for sale so please visit our listings.

Circa: 1920s - 1930s. Pattern was introduced in 1926 for export to Canada. We used \"Shelley Tea Ware Patterns\" by Sheryl Burdess to date item. All pieces have the same Backstamp. Plate and Saucer have 11628/YE on base. Cup has F 11628/7 on base. (Backstamps are same type as image further below.)

Condition: All pieces very good for age with no apparent damage or crazing and gold gilt is intact. Colours haven\'t faded but some of the pattern doesn\'t look crisp. This is a result of production process and not fading.

** Our items are second-hand and some will have faint utensil marks or slight production marks. We only mention these when they are more noticeable.** We take extra care with our photos to ensure the image is as close as possible to the actual item. This can be very time consuming therefore we don\'t usually take photos of bases unless we need to show damage.

**Our full \"Condition Policy\" can be seen further down the page.

Dimensions: Tea Cup -6cm high & 8cm diam. Saucer - 13.2cm across centre. Plate - 14cm across centre. Weight 312grams.

Postage/Pick-Up: All relevant information is further down the page under \"Shipping\" and includes Pick-Up details. We do combine postage so if you win more than one sale please wait before paying so we can send you an invoice with combined postage cost. The Postage Calculator is linked to Australia Post and is calculated on packed weight. If you\'re not sure how to use Calculator there are instructions under \"Shipping\". Unfortunately, free postage isn\'t an option for sale items. The uncertainty of final price and varying shipping rates make it difficult to absorb postage costs. We don\'t profit from postage but as we\'re not a large enterprise a small fee of AUD $1.50 is included to help cover cost for your box and packing materials. Your assistance and attention is appreciated.

Manufacturer Background: The original potteries built in 1860 by Henry Wileman were named Foley China Works. The first Shelley to join the company was J.B. Shelley, who started work as a travelling salesperson in 1862. In 1872, J.F. Wileman and J.B. Shelley went into partnership to form Wileman & Co. In 1881 Percy Shelley also joined the company. His three sons, Norman, Jack and Bob, joined the business in 1918. Bob\'s two sons, Alan and Donald, joined the company in 1946.

The trade name used by Wileman & Co. was Foley China. From 1890 to 1910 the name Foley, or Foley China, was used in conjunction with the name Wileman & Co. In 1910 the trade name was changed to Shelley, but between 1910 and 1916 the words Late Foley were still being included in the backstamps. This caused confusion because a number of other companies were also using the name Foley, as this was an area that had a lot of potteries. From 1912 the name Foley was dropped from the backstamps and only Shelley was used. The company name was changed to Shelley in 1925. In 1966, Shelley China Ltd. came to an end when it was taken over by Allied English Potteries.

Reference: A lot of our historical information comes from the book \"A Handbook of British Pottery Manufacturers 1900-2010\" by Australian author Michael Perry. It\'s an excellent reference book for collectors and concentrates mostly on historical background rather than backstamps. Features hundreds of British potteries, including the well known and the lesser known. One of the best books we\'ve ever come across about British china ware, porcelain, pottery etc. For further information or to purchase book visit Michael\'s website you for viewing our listing.
