Description
Here is a very fine handmade Tricone Tenor Guitar, Crafted by Luthier Jeremy Johnson in Lincoln Ne. This guitar was made in the year of 2010. It was made after a 1930’s ”National Pear shaped Tricone Guitar” The sides, front, back and neck are all solid maple wood which have been painted green. The paint has a frosted pattern in areas somewhat reminiscent of the duco finishes found on the early National steel bodied guitars. There are small honest cosmetic blemishes throughout from normal play wear and handling. There are no cracks and everything is tight and stable.
The action and set up on this guitar are just great. The strings at the 12th fret measure .25 mm to the bottom of strings(see photo) . There is plenty of down ward pressure on the maple saddle drawing plenty of volume and sustain from the 3 cones. The 3 cones all sit very nicely in the resonator sound well with no buzzing or rattling.
The Solid one piece maple neck is nice and straight. It has a bound Purple Heart fret board with MOP inlay fret markers up the neck. The larger size frets are all in excellent condition and show no signs of wear.
The guitar has a nicely balanced body and is very comfortable to play with a strap looped under the strings above the nut.

The tuners are from the 60’s and make fine adjustments and hold tune very well. I have played this guitar in a variety of tunings and it sounds lovely in them all, although I generally play it in the standard Tenor Guitar tuning. The voice is like no other I have ever heard from a guitar. The wood body in conjunction with the 3 cones sounds amazing. There are many rich and complex harmonizing tones, with nice sustain. The guitar lends itself to a variety of styles and genres of play.
