This VERY RARE, 107+ year old decoy was made by the Mason Decoy Factory in Detroit, Michigan and is a Premier Grade \"Hollow\" Short-Body, Drake Redhead Duck Decoy. The Premier Grade or Model was their Top-of-the-Line, Best version of wood decoy and was made with outstanding quality control and unsurpassed craftsmanship. It was carved hollow and hand-made and hand-painted not long after the turn of the century. Of the several wood decoy factories in Detroit, Mason would outlive them all and have a 30 year existence. This decoy is structurally in near mint original condition and the holes where the ballast weight and line tie were removed are pristine and paint free. The Imported, Hand-Poured, Antique, Original Glass Eyes are perfectly intact from the day it was gunned over more than a century ago.  Like-wise, both decoys have a couple shot marks with embedded shot and the holes are perfect and paint free and only add to the awesome look of this rare special order pair of mason duck decoys. This decoy is as solid as the day it was made with no looseness in the neck whatsoever and even the rubs to the head from being gunned over only add to the Aura of this 110+Year Old Gunning Decoy!! An Incredibly Nice decoy that will complement any collection of vintage duck and shorebird decoys from a company that represents as big a part of American Decoy History as any other maker or carver. This decoy is structurally in outstanding original condition and as you can see this decoy retains all of the awesome brush marks, sweeping solid-color brush strokes and head paint, plus nicely swathed speculums and paint swirls from the day an artist painted it some 120 years ago; even the \"Awesome Paint Detail\". Again, this Very rare and Truly Outstanding Short-Bodied Drake Redhead up for sale displays wonderfully and based on condition, I am it won\'t surprise you that this decoy and the hen rig-mate were prominently featured in a New York collection for a great many years. They have always been pampered in the Temperature and Direct-Sunlight Controlled setting of the collection and undoubtedly other fine collections for their entire retirement. The Beautiful, Imported Yellow Glass Eyes are wonderfully carved in and located and the paint on the gray bill and gorgeous maroon head looks awesome. This decoy is great example of the finest grade of decoy that Mason made and it was painted with as nice a paint scheme and thickness that you will see on one of these beauties! The bill has wonderfully carved in \"top-notches\", mandibles, head/bill separation, nostrils and perfect nail on the end! This decoy is as solid as the day it was made with no looseness in the neck whatsoever and the deep and vivid original paint is outstanding with no fading or darkening from age whatsoever...it is Vivid, Bright and 100% Original!! Additionally, this decoy is in outstanding original condition with beautiful and fully intact original paint as you can see in the pictures, and overall it is very dry and gorgeous old and original paint with a beautiful and naturally burnished semi-sheen or slightly shiny matte finish to it from being handled over the years. The outstanding patina on this decoy really is incredible and although it is very hard to capture it in photos, I think a few of the close-up pictures capture the wonderful \"character\" that the surface that this antique and important old gunning decoy has. This decoy was obviously gunned over a century ago, but it clearly was taken care of carefully as it is just in outstanding original condition. The original paint was done extremely well and as you can see by the many photos, the famous Mason Paint Brush Marks and Wonderful Speculums are intact and have all of the bright and vivid original paint perfectly intact. But even more awesome is the thick and 100% original brush marks and swirls, as every single brush stroke looks beautiful and perfectly intact!! This decoy is in phenomenal condition on the entire decoy, but it obviously has very light and even wear, but not all that much really!!
