Hello, thank you for having a look at our sales. This week we are very excited to be listingan amazing estate collection of fine jades and scholarly objects. This sale will be our Final sale of the winter season. We will likely list another Asian arts sale in early spring. This sale offers a wide variety of fine and important Chinese works of art including many jades, bronzes, and other rarely found scholarly objects.
The sale features items from two important estate collections. They include items from the estate of Mr. H.H Pao of Toronto who owned a high-end shop in the famous Four Seasons hotel in Toronto for several years throughout the 1980s to 1990s period. Mr. Pao was a dear friend whom was considered one of North America’s top experts and scholars in many categories of antique Chinese art. The sale also includes jades and other early Chinese bronze and archaic items from the estate of A Abraham. Mr. Abraham was a highly respected Asian Arts dealer and collector in the 1950-70’s period. He frequently travelled to China, Hong Kong, New York, and London on buying trips at the time. Abraham owned the Imperial Jade shop in the famous King Edward hotel in Toronto until his retirement in the year 1976, 40 years ago. When the shop closed many of the pieces went to Sotheby’s in New York for sale. Abraham kept some of his most favorite examples that we are now offering for sale. Most of the pieces have been in storage since the shop closed in 1976 and have not seen the light of day until now.

Up for sale is a very fine Chinese carved jade plaque mounted in an antique gilt metal box. This box is a very fine and unique example. I am told the jade plaque itself would date from the 17th to earlier 18th century period and that it was likely later installed into the box sometime in the 19th century. The jade plaque is very finely carved with a beautiful design and nice pierce carved features. The jade is a very light color that some may refer to as white jade, but to be safe for the sale I am seeing the plaque as a very light celadon jade. As you can see the box and plaque are in need of a good cleaning but we like to leave everything we offer in estate fresh condition. The jade plaque and box are otherwise in fine condition with no missing pieces, cracks, or repairs to the jade plaque. The box displays very nicely measuring 3 7/8 inches long, by 2 1/2 inches wide, by 2 1/4 inches tall. The jade plaque itself measures 3 5/8 inches long, by 2 1/4 inches wide, and approximately 3/8 inches thick. The box weighs 184 grams. I believe you do not see many examples of this fine quality come up for sale, mostly being offered without reserve!
