RARE STUNNING ART DECO SOLID STERLING SILVER FIVE PIECE CONDIMENT SET IN ORIGINAL PRESENTATION BOX – HALLMARKED BIRMINGHAM 1937 – SUPERB CONDITION – LIKE NEW!
You will adore this truly stunning, high quality, five piece solid sterling silver condiment or cruet set, dating from the Art Deco period and hallmarked for Birmingham 1937. It is presented in a lovely, original case with velvet and cream satin interior. What makes this piece so rare is its design and astonishing condition – you would really think that it is new and not almost 80 years old. It has clearly been kept, unused, in its box for many years.
The set consists of five pieces – a salt, a pepper pot, a mustard pot and two small condiment spoons. The salt and mustard pot both have their original blue glass liners still in place and completely intact. All the pieces are dated for hallmark 1937 and the three main ones are all by the same maker.
If you like Art Deco, you will love this! You can see from its design that it could not have come from any other era - it is an outstanding example - with all the wonderful style and elegance of the Art Deco period. There is no point in describing it – it is absolutely fabulous - just look at the pictures, and they do not do it justice.
HALLMARKS: The hallmarks on all pieces are very crisp and clear, we have shown only the one from the mustard pot for the main three pieces, but they are all the same. They are: “S & M” into two circles for Sanders & Mackenzie; the Anchor mark to show that the silver was assayed in Birmingham; the lion passant denoting solid English sterling silver; the date letter “N” for the year 1937. On the two small spoons they are both by Elkington & Co, all other hallmarks are the same as the above.
APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS/WEIGHT: The pepper pot is 7.5cm in height, including the finial, and about 26g in weight. The mustard pot is 6cm in height, including the finial, and weighs 30g, excluding the liner. The salt is 4cm in height and weighs 23g, excluding the liner. The two spoons are each 7cm in length and weigh just over 5g, so 10g altogether. Total weight of all silver is about 90g.
CONDITION: Please see above – what more can we say?! The only small point to mention, for completeness of detail, is that we have not been able to take the lid of the pepper pot off.
