Up for sale is this Very Rare 1916, hallmarked, Solid SterlingSilver WW1 CYMA trench watch & large 35mm case by FrancoisBorgel(Rare articulated lug arms). In the 1880s FrancoisBorgel invented a one piece case which eliminated the back case joint andensured better sealing - it was certainly dust resitant but nothowever,waterproof. The movement isscrewed into the case for betterlocationonto acarrier ring.The need for the movement to screwdown tightlywith the 12 position exactly vertical was difficult toachieve and the tightness even so it is still nice and tight!! This watch hasan extended stem and an onion crownso that it was easier to wind and setwith bulkyuniformjacket cuffs. The case is a larger size being 35mmin diameter the case and integral cover are in very good to excellent conditionwith only one small flat spot to the outer rim! The inside bearsa fullhallmark, .925 1916 import mark including the FBand key logo of FrancoisBorgel and the GS initials of importer andUK assaysponsor. The beautifuloriginal white enamel dial is in very good shape for its age only having onevery faint hair line and a tiny nick to the outer rim by the 2 o’clock and one by the 10 non of which are seen when the watch is worn and only mentioned for accuracy. Thedial is finished with period numerals, swept by the original hands. It isfinished with a sunken sub seconds register at 6 o’clock. The super clean fullysigned CYMA three Star Jewelled pinsetmovement is in full working ordersetting and running as it should!The period leather strap will fit most wrist sizes, it is in worn condition but this is easily replaced or perfectly fine left as it is. A highly desirable and very rare CYMABorgel cased, trench watch at 99p start and , I doubt if you willfind better!
