Many of you know us as longtime collectorsand sellers of vintage and antique Hallowe\'en, Christmas, Valentine’s Day andEaster holiday memorabilia, antique dolls, old toys and lovely old china andglassware. For your all-year-long Hallowe\'en loving pleasure, we are HAUNTINGly happy topresent a FRIGHTfully fabulous small vintage Hallowe\'en pressed paper pulpAmerican-made Jack o\' Lantern decoration that was made circa 1940s. This littlesweetheart retains his original paper insert, original paint and he even hashis original price written on the underside! Please meet Preston. He has a WICKEDly wonderful expression that is somewherebetween happy and scary. Made from pressed paper pulp – or what some call paperor papier mache – Preston was sold for a whopping10 cents probably at one ofthose great old five-and-ten-cent stores that many of us miss to this day.His original paint is in great condition and is in a wonderful shade of mediumorange with a dark green airbrushed top. His original paper insert, helping tocreate his charming expression, is in shades of blue, old red, golden yellowand ivory white. He measures 4 ¼” tall (6 ½” to the top of his handle) x 4 ¼”wide x 4 ¼” deep. Preston has an old wire bail handle but we do not believe it is original. Heis in unused condition; as many of you know paper pulp lanterns such as thisone were often lit using real wax candles to give the family home a GHOULishand eerie glow on All Hallows\' Eve.There is absolutely no evidence Preston was ever illuminated. There isNO waxin the interior and there areNO burn marks, tears or holes to the lanternitself or the perfect paper insert! Yay!Preston has a little bit of paint wear at the top rim, a few short cracks tothe top rim and a little wear to the original holes placed to accommodate thewire bail handle. On the back there is a small indentation done in the making, and thisisNOT damage.“10” is written in heavy pencil on the underside which ishis original for-sale price of ten cents. We find no touch-ups to the paintwhatsoever, but there are sometiny paintrubs. This little guy is a charmer!
