A fine rare large old Northwest Coast Indian basket originating from one of the Salish speaking tribes of western Washington most likely the Quinault or Skokomish tribe. This is one of three superb Northwest Coast and California baskets that we\'re currently offering. Each is museum quality and worthy of the best collections. The basket features a complex and striking design of bands of linked diamonds and and lightning patterns that encircle the periphery. A simple checker work purple band encircles the top. The basket measures a very respectable 10 1/2\" d and stands 7\" tall and is in fine condition with no splits, repairs or damages noted. The basket is very finely woven from split cedar bark and root with the complex imbricated designs from dyed bear grass.These type of baskets were usually made to show off a basket weavers skill and are some of my most favorite baskets. . Thisstunning museum quality basket displays very well and will make a fine addition to anyone\'s collection.
