Very Old German English or Austrian Stag Handle Hunting Sword 1700's - 1800's
Price: US $355.00
This sale is for a very old stag grip hunting sword or short sword. It appears to be German, but could be English, Austrian, or French,or American (or from just about any other country I suppose). I cannot find any manufacturer's name or mark on it. I believe it is from the 1700's or early 1800's, but could be as early as the 1600's. I have seen a very similar sword on recently (sale #251621554104)that was identified by a blade marking as having been made by Johannes Wundes III in the late 1600's, but, again, I cannot find any markings on this blade. The sword is 26" long overall with a 20" curved blade. The blade is 1 1/4" wide at the hilt. The brass pommel is oval and rather large 2 1/4" wide at the widest point. It is in original uncleaned condition with light rust covering the darkened blade. The top edge of the blade has a cutting edge on the last 8'' to the point. Please see the photos and the "condition description" above to judge the condition. The worst issue is that is looks as if it had something, perhaps a langet or clamshell, on one side, between the guard and the blade, that is no longer present. Thanks for looking.
