Original old forged iron pipe axe with a nice double weeping heart cutaway, with oval shaped eye and haft. The head is simply amazing, a rare double weeping heart cutaway. The eye shows a forging seam above and below. Head to haft fit is tight and strong. The haft has some dust and dirt on it, I will leave the cleaning up to the new owner. The ash wood haft is original to the head. The haft has several lobes along its length as well as a slight curvature or warp cause by a century of the wood drying. The wood has a nice heavy and dark patina. The handle has been well used and has good wear on it. Along the length of the ash haft are many file branding marks which is traditional decoration for a tomahawk\'s haft (handle). Old original square shank brass tacks with a nice chocolate brown patina on the surface. A good patina on the surface of the head and haft as well. The pipe bowl is ornate and very nice, a nice characteristic. A small French hook is seen underneath the blade, the small portion sticking down from the blade. This tomahawk is a longer and larger size, quite impressive in person! Bought at sale by my grandfather in the 1970\'s in Wyoming.
