Very Rare "Prouty - Boston" Black Bass Casting Reel
Price: US $2269.00
A very short lived stamp from "Prouty - Boston", with information coming from A.J. Campbell's book "Classic & Antique Fly Fishing Tackle" that tells us Prouty worked for Bradford & Anthony until the company closed, with the "new" company starting in December of 1882 and abruptly ending with Prouty's death in 1883. The black bass reel is stamped on the hard rubber head cap simply "Prouty - Boston" and is personalized with the name "K. Gardner" on the tail plate side. A No.3 size reel with German silver hardware and hard rubber end plates, measuring 2 1/2" in diameter with a narrow 1 1/8" wide spool, unmarked with a maker name, though it is more than likely a Vom Hofe made reel. Both the hard rubber click and drag switches work well on this example, with nickel silver bands over the end plates, reverse "S" shaped handle with turned hard rubber grasp and screw off tail plate end cap. Just a beautiful reel with its only flaw a small cut in the rubber on the head cap near the 7 o'clock screw. The fitted leather reel case shows external wear, but retains the original front strap. One of the nicest black bass reels to show up on in quite a long time - far rarer than any Meek, Milam or Gayle casting reel. I will combine items for shipping - please ask for a combined invoice post sale. Sorry, shipping to US addresses only. Good luck and thanks for offerding.
