Here\'s an interesting and scarce 1891 aluminum \"SO CALLED DOLLAR\" or token from Stockton, California. It was apparenty issued in 1891 for the dedication of the Stockton California Courthouse and is listed as HK-623 in the Hibler-Kappen book on So Called Dollars.

The front of the 1-1/2\" diameter piece shows a relief image of the Courthouse with DEDICATED A.D. 1891 below it.

The back of the token reads \"COMPLIMENT\'S OF THE SHERIFF\'S OFFICE....Tho\'s (Thomas) Cunningham....SHERIFF STOCKTON SAN JOAQUIN CO, CAL.\"

Thomas Cunningham was born in 1838 and died in 1900. He took office as Sheriff of San Joaquin County in 1872 and served as Sheriff until 1898 or 1899. He participated in many of the major criminal manhunts in the late 1800s in California, including possible involvement in the capture of famed Western outlaw Black Bart.

The Courthouse side is in good, average condition with a sharp strike but with numerous fine scratches and a few small areas of corrosion. There are 2 noticeable scrapes on the surface of the other side, one under \"COMPLIMENTS OF\" and the other through the top of the \"T\" in \"Tho\'s\" as shown.
