For sale, consider this circa 1960\'s Topping Models Desk Model of the North American Aviation X-15 in it\'s Original Box. The model is 14-1/2\" long. The decals are in excellent condition with very little yellowing. The paint does have scratches, particularly on the underside - look carefully at the photographs. The stand has some old adhesive tape residue - see photographs.This model is from the estate of my late father who was a colonel in the USAF, a pilot in SAC, and worked on the Titan ICBM missile program. The model has been in storage for over 40 years.

The X-15 set speed and altitude records in the 1960s, reaching the edge of outer space and returning with valuable data used in aircraft and spacecraft design. As of September 2015, the X-15 holds the official world record for the highes speed ever recorded by a manned, powered aircraft. It could reach a top speed of 4,520 miles per hour or Mach 6.72.
