For sale.....From our family of doll collectors we have for your consideration this beautiful 21-inch Madame Alexander doll. Her composition body is jointed at the neck, shoulders, and hips. She has overall long-line crazing and some serious cracking. These issues are evident in the photos. She is loose. Her fingers have no chips.
Her mohair hair is in the original set...parted on the side with one forhead curl and mid-length curls. Her pretty hazel sleep eyes are clear and function properly, and all her brush lashes are intact. Her facial coloring is perfect, and the rosy glow of her cheeks is repeated on her hands and knees.
We can find no markings on this doll...neither on her back nor on the nape of her neck.
The clothing on this lovely lady has never been removed. We have unsnapped the back of her dress, though, in order to check for markings. She is wearing a pink and cream dress of taffeta, satin, and lace. The bodice of the dress is pink taffeta with long mutton sleeves, a round neck with rolled collar, and mid-length peplum. A center vertical seam in the front is accented with four pink flocked velvet flowers. The long pleat-gathered skirt is cream-colored lace and wide pink satin ribbon. Narrow pink satin ribbon bows and a pink and white flocked velvet nosegay accent the top horizontal ribbon inset. A pink cotton underskirt is attached at the waist, and the dress closes in the back bodice with small square snaps. Under her dress, the doll wears pink cotton underpants with mid-thigh boy legs which are trimmed with a white crochet and pink satin ribbon edging. A small brass safety pin closes the underpants in the back.
The dress tag reads...Madame Alexander New York U.S.A.
Completing the ensemble...:Pink \"Leather\" flats with pink satin ribbon ankle ties, a pink and white nosegay on her right wrist, and a pink straw hat embellished with a pink and white nosegay and pink satin ribbon bows.
A green and gold foil wrist tag on her right wrist reads on one side...A MADAME ALEXANDER DOLL, and on the other side reads...Madame Alexander ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
The original price tag is attached to the hem of the left leg of the underpants. It is a rectangle white tag attached by a small white string. It reads...126 3900 $18.98 The price $18.98 was marked through with a red pencil, and $16.98 was written in. Then the $16.98 was marked through, and a final price of $9.49 was added. If there is a store name on this tag, it has faded so that we cannot see it.
My guess would be that this doll was purchased at one of the department stores in Greensboro, North Carolina...Belk, Ellis Stone, or Meyers. My husband\'s grandmother and two aunts collected many dolls over a period of many years, and our mission is to find new homes for some of the ladies\' treasures. This helps provide a unique care for the one surviving aunt who is now 96 years old and residing in a special memory care facility.
