Vintage E. Gubelin Swiss 17-Jewel Desk Clock Alarm Clock Pocket Watch in Stand

DescriptionThis is a very neat 8 Days Alarm clock made in Switzerland by E. Gubelin. The watch mirrors a typical pocket watch, but is much larger, measuring 3\" in diameter and about 0.75\" thick. This is an open-face design with a winding stem at the 12 o\'clock position. You can wind both ways, presumably one way for the alarm feature and the other way for the mainspring. There is a button on top of the stem that silences the alarm. The back is engraved\"To Fredrick for his kindness. Jante Lena\". The back flips open, has a machined decoration, and is marked \"103408\", \"METALDURE\", and \"DG\" in a beehive-type shape. There is another cover on the back that flips open to reveal the movement. This cover is also machine decorated, and the movement itself is marked as seen in the photograph. The entire device fits into a recess on the wood stand so that it serves as a bedside alarm clock. The clock can be stowed by flipping the top of the stand down and sliding it into the box. Very nice Swiss engineering all around.
ConditionThis item is inGood Condition. The alarm sounds when the preset time is reached. The clock was ticking when I found it at a house sale, but it isn\'t now. I\'ve gently wound the clock, but I will not wind further in order to prevent any overwinding or damage to springs. The face looks like it might have glowed in the dark at one time, but no more. There is a mark on the face at the 9 o\'clock position. There is light overall surface wear on the wooden box, and the patina on the wood is different for the portion that sits inside.
