Working Vintage 1943 Hamilton Model 35 Marine Ship Pocket Chronometer with original Wooden Chronometer Display Box !

Up for offerding in this no-reserve sale is a used1943 Hamilton Model 35 Marine Pocket Chronometerwith original wooden viewing box.The chronometer, wooden box, hinges and latches are all in good working and cosmetic condition. The clock is running strongly and was measured as keeping time with a total error of approximately 0.4 seconds over a full 24-hour test run (4/10th second drift per day), although continued performance at that level is not guaranteed as this is a 73 year-old timepiece.

The measured drift of 0.4s / day is well within the original Hamilton Model 35 accuracy tolerance of 1.5 seconds per day as was required by the U.S. Navy.

Naval guidelines of the 1940s stated that chronometers should be fully-wound once daily, and at the exact same time each day.

For many mechanical chronometers the first 24 hours after a full wind-up yields the most stable timekeeping from the movement, and hence the Navy\'s daily wind-up requirement.

Accordingly, the aforementioned timing accuracy test covered only the first 24 hours from the fully wound-up position (accurate to 0.4 sec for the first day).

Note that ambient temperature and other factors can affect timing accuracy by several tenths of a second or more on a day-to-day basis.

Please note that future timing operation and accuracy are not guaranteed, especially considering the advancing age of this 1940\'s era mechanical clock.

The clock-winding, time-setting, and time-keeping functions are in full working order. The clock runs continuously for a little over 61 hours on a full winding.

The Up - Down winding indicator dial works correctly. (this is the small hand near 12 o\'clock. It shows how many hours have elapsed since the last full-winding.)

For the first 24 hours, the clock stayed within 0.4 seconds of actual time as compared to an atomic clock time source. However, future performance and accuracy are not guaranteed.

The clock metal casing casing is in very good condition, with very minor scratches, primarily on the back of the watch. Nothing major. (See photos).

The movement appears to be very clean, with no indication of any rust, or accumulation of dirt.

The dial has in near mint condition, with only a few fine spots of dust or patina (i.e. age spot) (see close-up photo of dial, which is a very accurate exhibit of the cosmetic condition.)

The crystal is nearly perfect, is very clear and smooth, with no readily apparent scratches or defects.

The original hands retain their highly polished finish, are straight, and are still in mint good condition.

The original protective wooden chronometer display box is in fair to good cosmetic condition, with some surfaces scratches on the box wood. (see photos ! )

The plexiglass box viewing port-hole is in excellent condition with no significant scratches or marks. The viewing glass on this box is very clear, which is unusual to find in such good condition (i.e. the glass is not yellowed or clouded). See photos.

The box latches and hinges are in good cosmetic condition for their age, and are in ideal functional condition.

I believe I have made a fair and accurate description of this item in its current condition. However there is no warranty of any kind, and this old item is beingsold in \"as is\" condition.
