Striking and hard-to-find Trifari STERLING Jelly Belly sea turtle brooch. The lucite jelly bellyhas atiny (approximately 1/8 inch) top scratch that is visible when light reflects at an angle, and a tiny (approx. 1/16 inch)smudge on the underbelly. The gold vermeil over the STERLING base is stillvisible but it has fadedover time– see pictures. The flippers, head and tail are decorated with small clear rhinestones – one of the clear rhinestones on the head is missing. The eyes are green rhinestones but one is deep-set while the other protrudes a bit – again,see pictures.

Finally, the pin back appears to have a professional repair. There is a silver solder that contrasts (like pewter on silver) that wouldn’t be original to the piece – at least in my opinion. I will be sure sister takes some close-ups of these issues.

So…now that I’ve been overly critical, let me assure you it is a very impressive, vintage piece and deserving of a new owner who will cherish it. Indeed,I feel like I\'ve just describeda purebred animal, with pedigree and papers, who is in need of rescue!

Sea turtle measures 1 1/2\"x 2 1/4\". It is Design Patent No. 185,170 issued March 2, 1943 to Alfred Philippe. The back of the brooch has the early Trifari signature, the STERLING hallmark and the DES.PAT.NO.
