WATERMAN 12 c1910s-\'20s, SMOOTH HR, FINE EXTRA-FLEXIBLE NIB

GREAT CALLIGRAPHY PEN, WITH CLIP

Waterman 12, circa 1910s or \'20s, insmooth hard rubber with nickel clip. This was Waterman\'smoderately priced workhorse pen at the time, before the lever filler came along. It wasmarketed to students, artists, secretaries, working people. This pen has the optional extra clip installed --not yet universally adopted, and nice to find on these old eyedrop fillers.

The Waterman #2 nib has nice long tines, and isfine and very flexible. The tines separate easily, but some pressure is required.Once pressure is exerted, it will get very wide. Look at the writing samples below --the squares are 5mm wide.It is possible to write with it without shading, but it takes some concentration. As such, it\'s just short of \'wet noodle\' in softness, I\'d say.You can get all those effects that only really flexible nibs will give you -- the banner tail ends, the stuttering downstrokes.Very good forany style of pointed-pen calligraphy like copperplate or spencerian..

The pen is in typical used condition, with lots of fading to the hard rubber, but no chips or cracks. The hard rubber has faded from the sun, and there\'s more fading on the barrel than the cap. The imprint is clear,as is the\'12\' model number on the back of the barrel. The clip is nice and solid.

This is an eyedrop filler, so no restoration is needed in order to make it fill. You unscrew the section and put ink directly into the barrel with an eyedropper. The section unscrews as it should. The length is justunder5 1/4 inches.

This item was up last week and is being relisted due to a nonpaying buyer.
