Waterman 94 fountain pen circa 1930s in mahogany celluloid with gold filled trim.
The 94 was a full size pen, one step down in size and quality from the Number Seven, witha big #4 nib and fat cap and barrel. It had a distinctive stepped cap top and clip and cap band designs that fit into Waterman\'s lineup. The \'mahogany\' color was a terra cotta brown with cream veins -- one of Waterman\'s most attractive colors.
This is a very nice example, withglossy plastic, good trim, and aclear barrel imprint. The color is beautiful, nice and bright with no visible darkening. The cap band and lip area has a dent that looks like a crack but is not, and the usual \'94\' imprint on the bottom of the barrel seems to be missing or worn.
The big No. 4 nib is fine to medium and quite flexible, similar to the \'red\' color-designated nib Waterman made at around this time. It\'s capable of dramatic line variation and is quite good for pointed-pen alphabets like copperplate and spencerian. It\'s also excellent for everyday writing, and as such wouldbe called a \'general purpose\' nib by Waterman in the \'20s or \'30s, which is how the company characterized its redkeyhole nib.See the writing samples.
