Up for sale is a nice vintage parts combo perfect for a retro Windows 98SE era gaming build. These parts are all in good condition and have been thoroughly tested to work well on my test bench. I have had all these parts in climate controlled storage for a very long time, time to start thinning out my collection. Read below for what is included.
1. The HP/Asus A7V8X-LA mATX Socket A motherboard is based on the Via KM400 chipset and supports AMD Athlon XP/Duron/Sempron 266/333 FSB CPUs. It has two DDR1 SDRAM memory slots. It has onboard S3 video, but integrated video is automatically disabled if an AGP video card is used in the AGP 4X/8X slot. There are three PCI slots for expansion. The is also onboard Realtek audio and Via 10/100 LAN which are both currently disabled in BIOS for Windows 98 usage. Serial/parallel/USB 1.0/1.1/2.0 floppy and two IDE ports for support of up to four devices also. Board has been updated to the latest BIOS and has a recent CMOS battery installed. All caps look good and board runs very stable.I/O shield included!!2. Installed CPU is an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ running at 1.53GHz. This is a Thoroughbred core with 266MHz FSB, and 256kb of L2 cache. Included is a nice Asus aluminum heatsink/fan installed with Arctic MX-4 thermal paste!3.Currently installed memory is 512MB of 333MHz DDR1 SDRAM via 2HP 305957-041 256MBDIMMs. (512MB is the ideal amount for Windows 98SE without OS modifications) Memory passes memtest86+ testing.
4. Included AGP 4X GPU is an Nvidia Geforce 2 MX with 64MB of SDRAM memory on a 128-bit bus and passive cooling. I have performed a BIOS mod and gave the memory a small overclock from 166MHz to 175MHz for additional performance, and I have used thermal glue to attach a heatsink to the GPU. It supports DirectX 7 and OpenGL 1.2 and this card has VGA DSUB output.5. A self-booting restore CD-R set is included with this motherboard that will install a custom Windows 98SE OS for this hardware. I made the image using a Samsung 40GB IDE HDD but the image disc should work with any 40GB or larger IDE HDD. The image was made specifically for this motherboard with a fresh install of Windows 98SE, Via chipset drivers, Omega 45.23 video drivers, as well as IE6 SP1, Media Player 9, DirectX 9.0C, shutdown patch, and some various period correct programs such as CCleaner, Irfanview, Adobe Reader, 3DMark99/2000/2001 and more. It also supports reading USB flash drives for easier file transfers. So if you want to easily be up and running with this parts combo on Windows 98SE all you need is a 40GB or larger IDE HDD, an IDE optical drive, IDE cables, and a case and good quality ATX power supply. I'd suggest a SoundBlaster live PCI sound card for good DOS support. A floppy drive and floppy cable are optional but recommended. You will also need a PS2 keyboard and a PS2 or USB mouse. Note: One of the sale pictures shows how much space is available on the 40GB hard drive I used to make the restore CD-Rs!This combo will be well packaged and will ship via USPS Ground or UPS Ground with tracking.
