Apple PowerMac G4 M8493 800MHz 1GB RAM 512GB SSD OS 10.4/9.2.2 Dual Boot
Price: US $219.99
NOTE! This unit has a bad speaker. It works, but doesn't sound great. Also, you will see that it has the faceplate for the Zip 250, however, the Zip drive is not functional. It has the click of death. Otherwise, fully tested, fully functional. Replaced the CMOS battery with a fresh one from EBL. The SSD is tested and has moderate use. We have partitioned the SSD so that OS 9.2.2 has about 100GB, while OS X 10.4 "Tiger" gets about 400GB. The SSD is attached to the floor of the case using 3M Velcro. Missing one of the HDD drive sleds. Includes the Adaptec SCSI card Model AHA-2930CU MAC. Comes with a power cord, but not the original Apple cord. There are some minor scuffs and scratches on the unit. See close up photos. Overall in 8/10 cosmetic condition.
The computer will boot into whichever OS it was last running. Switching between OS 9 and OS X is simple. Press and hold the Option key during boot up and select the appropriate partition at the drive selection screen. Alternatively, you can use the Startup Disk control panel to select the OS you would like to boot into upon the next boot. You can also run OS 9 using the emulated "Classic" environment inside OS X. You'll have to point the Classic control panel at the OS 9 partition system folder to make it work, but it's pretty straightforward.
The speed difference between using a mechanical hard drive and the SSD are significant. Look at photo 23. We provided XBench data and have highlighted random read and write speed tests. While the sequential read and write speeds between the mechanical HDD and the SSD are nearly identical, the SSD performs ridiculously better for random reads and writes. Sequential reads and writes are best described as when a mechanical hard drive can read or write a single large file without having to seek (move the drive head to another location). Random reads and writes are a better reflection of general daily computer use. It's this speed boost that makes everything super snappy.
