• What phone systems is the J179 compatible with?
  The J179 works natively with Avaya Aura Platform (6.3 FP4 or later) and Avaya IP Office (11.0 or later). It also supports H.323 for Avaya Communication Manager environments and is compatible with selected third-party Open SIP platforms. It is NOT a standalone phone — it requires a supported Avaya or Open SIP call server to function.
• Is a power adapter included? Does it require PoE?
  A power adapter is NOT included. The J179 is designed to be powered via IEEE 802.3af Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) from a PoE-capable network switch or PoE injector. If your switch does not supply PoE, an optional 5V AC adapter is available separately (Avaya part 700500860).
• Does it have built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth?
  No — Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are not built in. Both are available via the optional Avaya J100 Wireless Module (sold separately), which plugs into the back of the phone and adds both Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth headset support simultaneously.
• What's the difference between the J179 and the J169?
  Both are 8-line Gigabit IP phones. The J179 has a color display and supports the optional J100 Wireless Module for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The J169 has a grayscale display and does not support the wireless module. If you need color display or wireless capability, the J179 is the correct model.
• Can expansion modules be added for more line keys?
  Yes. The J179 supports up to three Avaya JBM24 or JEM24 expansion modules, each adding 24 programmable buttons. Up to two modules can be powered directly via the phone's PoE connection; a third module requires an external 5V power supply.
