READ THIS FIRST
All three drives read about 2,254 power-on hours and sit within 3 hours of each other, so they were installed together and pulled together. For this model that is low - most used 7K4000s on the market are well past this.
Lifetime writes are 13, 17 and 22 TB, of which 4 TB is my own wipe pass. A handful of TB written across 2,254 hours is a light, mostly-idle workload.
This is a 6 Gb/s SAS-2 drive, not SATA and not 12 Gb/s. It will NOT plug into a normal desktop motherboard. You need a SAS HBA or RAID controller.

All three: SMART health OK, 7200 rpm, firmware A1C4, 512 logical / 512 physical sectors, 0 read / 0 write / 0 verify uncorrected errors, 17-18 start-stop cycles, about 1 TB lifetime reads each.
NOT SELF-ENCRYPTING - THIS IS A GOOD THING
Unlike most enterprise SAS drives of this era, the HUS724040ALS640 has no self-encrypting-drive capability at all. It cannot arrive locked, it cannot be password-bound to a controller you do not have, and there is no PSID recovery dance. If you have ever bought a used SAS drive that turned out to be a locked SED, this model cannot do that to you.
HONEST ASSESSMENT
Good for: a ZFS/Ceph/unRAID pool, a backup target, or spares for an existing 7K4000 array. Three matched drives with a documented hour count and clean counters.
Not good for: a desktop without a SAS controller, or anyone who needs 12 Gb/s - this generation tops out at 6 Gb/s. 7200 rpm enterprise drives are loud and run warm.
DATA SANITIZATION
Every drive received a full-length zero overwrite across the entire LBA range, followed by a verification read and a post-wipe SMART re-read compared against the pre-wipe capture. No drive is included unless its defect and error counts were unchanged by the wipe. NIST 800-88 Clear. The drives arrive as raw zeroed disks with no partition table.

Three (3) bare 3.5 inch SAS hard drives, serials as listed above. No caddies, no trays, no screws, no cables, no adapters, no mounting hardware. Bare drives only.
